White Bluff on the road to Carnarvon holds the history of its past life, when it lay beneath the sea, with fossils carved into the soft white rock. The photo was taken on a dried riverbed that forms part of the Wooramel, an ephemeral river with a palaeodrainage system that once connected to the mighty Murchison River system.

This history has carved shapes and fossils into the soft ground, creating a living tree of life. I wanted to show the shifting colours and geology around these dried beds, where orange dirt, white soft rock and the Australian bush in spring meet. Taken from the air, this is a portrait of our history and historic river systems that fed life around it.
